Aromatic profile
The first impression of Amyris is that it has a very delicate scent. You need to spend some time breathing it to truly perceive and appreciate all nuances of this oil. You will be able to pick on the underlying woody notes that are slightly balsamic, rich, and warming. As the oil continues to dry out, the balsamic woody notes persist.
Oil History
Amyris Balsamifera, also called “West Indian sandalwood”, is a small tree. Because its fragrance has a woody dimension like sandalwood, the plant’s botanical classification has long been controversial. The local Haitian people traditionally called the amyris wood “candlewood” due to a high essential oil content that causes it to be highly flammable. The fishermen used it as “torches” at night to go sea crabs hunting. Country dwellers also used it as a source of light to help them find their way before sunrise.
